About WIS
Welcome

Celebrating the diversity

Wroclaw International School (WIS) is one of three schools governed by the not-for-profit public charity: Foundation of International Education.

Established in September 2002 WIS is the first international school in Wroclaw. The school has grown into an exciting learning community which serves the needs of expatriates in the Lower Silesia region.

Our program currently extends from pre-school (age 3) to grade 10 (age 15). With an enrollment of over 100 students, we greatly value and strive to maintain the caring ethos of WIS, and small class sizes ensure that students' individual learning needs are met.

Our new (February 2004) modern purpose-built facility is located near the center of Wroclaw - 38 Zielinskiego Street. WIS students from grades 5 through grade 10 attend this campus. A second campus - 17 Beyzyma Street - was set up at the onset of the 2006/07 school year to meet increasing enrolment. The new campus is located in a newly renovated building in the southern part of the city and houses the pre-school through grade 4 classes. The distance between campuses is less than 3 km (about 7 min. drive).

The student community at WIS is multinational. Students from more than 20 countries are currently enrolled. About 50% of the student body comes from the Far East. Although very few Polish citizens attend WIS, the international school at our main campus shares the facilities with private bilingual (Polish-English) primary and secondary ATUT schools, also run by the Foundation of International Education. About 10% of WIS students are native English speakers, others are second language learners at varying levels of competence in English. Classes are purposely small. The cap on classes ranges from 12 to 18 students.

Students at WIS prepare to meet the challenges of an increasingly dynamic and complex global culture. In September 2007 the school started the implementation of the curricular frameworks of the Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. The language of instruction is English. Our internationally trained staff is experienced, certified, and highly qualified. Regular professional development opportunities support our teachers in providing the best possible education to our students.

We support the holistic development of our students, so that they can realize their full potential. The school provides an rigorous curriculum and sets high standards, and the teaching faculty and programs provide the environment necessary for them to meet those demands.

Since the year 2002 Wroclaw International School has been a member of European Council of International School (ECIS), a body which monitors the quality of the program and teaching in member schools.

Between 2002 and 2004 WIS had "prospective member" status with the ECIS.

In January 2005 WIS has been granted a "Regular Membership" status which confirms high standards maintained by Wroclaw International School.

WIS is also a Regular Member of Council of International Schools (CIS).

The Council of International Schools is the premier organisation in International Education for the accreditation of schools and Best Practice development. CIS is a not-for-profit organisation of a truly worldwide international educational community comprising over 500 member schools and 400 colleges/universities. It has experience of K-12 education in more than 100 countries and many of the Council's Officers and Consultants are former heads of international schools.

The central purpose of CIS is to enable member organisations to achieve and deliver the highest standards in International Education and continually improve the outcome of student learning.
